VO2max

VO2max represents the maximum amount of oxygen that can be taken into the body each minute per kg of body weight.
Also, based on the estimated VO2 max, completion times for 5km, 10km, half marathon, and full marathon races can be forecasted.

VO2max Estimation Conditions

  • The device is compatible with the VO2max estimation function
  • User information (height, weight, age, gender, etc.) is entered properly
  • When measuring with a listed device, the category [Run] is selected
  • GPS positioning has been completed outside, and the user has run for 10 consecutive minutes after starting the measurement
  • The user’s heart rate (pulse) can be monitored while running
  • The auto-pause setting is set to [Off]
  • The running speed is over 6km/hr or the pace is over 10min/km
  • The user runs with enough exercise intensity so that the heart rate (pulse) while running is 55-90% HRR(*)

(*) Heart rate (pulse) = Exercise intensity (%HRR) x (Maximum heart rate – Resting heart rate) + Resting heart rate

VO2max cannot be estimated under the below status. Please end this measurement and start a new measurement.

  • There was a pause (Pressing [C]/Auto-pause) before 10 minutes had elapsed since starting the measurement.
  • The running speed or exercise intensity %HRR could not be maintained due to traffic stops or walking.
  • The pulse cannot be measured

Reference)

We recommend running on a flat ground with no incline.
VO2max estimations and forecasted race times may vary based on the below conditions.

  • Body and weather (temperature, humidity, wind, etc.) conditions while running
  • Running course (courses with inclines, trail running, etc.)

Error Code

If VO2max estimation fails, it will be displayed in Epson View.

Error code Error Name Error Description How to estimate the VO2max
Non-covered item error The measurement was performed for an item with no VO2max estimate. Set the activity to [Run], then measure it.
エラーアイコン
GPS error Measured without a GPS location. VO2max cannot be estimated with [Indoor] measurements, GPS measurement [Skip], and in poor GPS reception conditions. Set the activity to [Run], then start the measurement after the GPS location is found.
エラーアイコン
Measurement pause error Manual or Auto Pause caused the measurement to pause. Within ten minutes after starting the measurement, continue running. Turning off Auto Pause is recommended.
エラーアイコン
Pulse measurement error Heart rate measurement(Meas. HR) setting of workout measurement is OFF or there was a section where the pulse (heart rate) could not be measured. Check if Heart rate measurement(Meas. HR) setting of workout measurement is ON and the pulse (heart rate) has been measured.
Pulse measurement is not stable.
エラーアイコン
Walking detection error Because you stopped or walked along the way, the pace required to estimate the VO2max was not maintained. For 10 minutes after starting the measurement, please do not stop or walk, mantaining a pace faster than 10min/km.
エラーアイコン
Undetected pace error The pace required to estimate the VO2max was not maintained. Within ten minutes after starting the measurement, maintain a pace of 10 min./km or faster.
エラーアイコン
Exercise intensity out-of-range error VO2max could not be esitimated for this exercise intensity. For 10 minutes immediately after starting the measurement, please run as to keep your heart rate in the aerobic exercise zone or anaerobic exercise zone.
Or run as to keep your exercise intensity in the 55 ~ 90% HRR.
